Peter Linley
Peter
Linley was born in Red Deer, Alberta. Peter attended the University of
Alberta in a pre-med program and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in
Economics from the University of Calgary. He then moved to British Columbia
and, after attending Law School at UBC, graduated in 1969. Mr. Linley
articled with a small litigation firm in Vancouver known then as McFarlane,
Gaff & Williamson. Peter manned the firms Abbotsford Office shortly after
his call to the BC Bar and devoted his time to prosecutions and civil
litigation in his early practice years. As the community quickly grew,
Peter purchased the Abbotsford Offices of the firm together with his partner,
James L. Duignan, and in September of 1971 founded the successor firm
of Linley Duignan.
Peters practice has been wide ranging but as the firm grew the emphasis has been on real estate related matters, corporate and commercial transactions, matrimonial law and matters related to wills and estates.
Mr. Linley has had a wide range of community involvement in which he has undertaken executive positions, including former president of the Abbotsford Airshow Society. For a three-year period Peter served as a member of the National Parole Board.
Peter is a family man with seven children, all of whom have either completed university education or are presently attending. Peter and his wife, Beverly, have a winter home and golf membership in sunny climates as their quiet getaway.
James L. Duignan
James L.
Duignan (“Larry”) was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and raised
in Edmonton, Alberta. After graduating from the University of Alberta,
Larry attended the University of British Columbia Law School where he
obtained an L.L.B. degree in 1970. After articling and being associated
with Lawson, Lundell in Vancouver, he joined Peter Linley in Clearbrook,
B.C., to form the law firm of Linley Duignan on September 1, 1971.
Since the founding of the law firm, Larry has primarily handled corporate and commercial transactions as well as solicitor tasks in relation to Wills, Estates and Real Estate transactions. He has had considerable experience working with farm corporations and the various marketing boards in the Province. He also works closely with tax advisers in corporate reorganizations intending to minimize the tax burden of his clients.
Larry has been active in the community having served as Past President of the Fraser Valley Bar Association and, for several years, as a Director and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the MSA General Hospital. Larry has also served as legal advisor to a number of non-profit organizations including 1995 Western Canada Summer Games Society, 2004 BC Summer Games, Abbotsford Minor Hockey and several other sports related organizations. He is an active member of the Ledgeview Golf & Country Club in Abbotsford, and has previously served on the Board of Directors.
Larry and his wife, Lynda, have raised two children in the Abbotsford community and enjoy traveling vacations.
R.A. Wattie
After serving
as an officer in the Canadian Artillery, retiring with the rank of Captain,
R.A. Wattie (“Tony”) attended the University of British Columbia,
focusing on Political Science and Economics, and graduated with Honours
in 1964. He then attended the University of Toronto Law School from which
he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1967. Tony then moved back to
British Columbia where he articled in Vancouver at the law firm of Russell
Dumoulin, where he practiced for seven years in the firm’s bankruptcy,
bonding and construction law departments. In 1974 Tony was invited by
Peter and Larry to join them in the law practice of Linley Duignan, and
Tony has practiced here ever since.
Tony practices primarily in the fields of commercial litigation, including marketing boards, estate litigation, bankruptcy law and personal injury. Tony has appeared before all three levels of Superior Court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada on four occasions.
Tony has been involved with Big Brothers of the Fraser Valley and Boy Scouts. His hobbies include walking, playing bridge and gardening. He resides here in Abbotsford.
David Letkemann
David Letkemann
earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University
in 1992, and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of
British Columbia in 1995. David articled here at Linley Duignan and was
called to the bar in 1996. He has practiced here since, and is a partner.
David practices in the field of civil litigation, including personal injury, commercial, estate and family law. He has participated in numerous trials in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, both jury and judge-alone, and has also appeared before the British Columbia Court of Appeal on several occasions.
David grew up in the Fraser Valley, and continues to live in Abbotsford with his wife and three children. In addition to practicing law, he is a director of Envision Financial Credit Union and the Run for Water Society, and helps coach little league sports. When not working, David enjoys mountain biking, music and spending time with his family and friends.
Tony Sandhu
Tony
received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University in 2001,
where he majored in Economics. Tony also has a diploma in Business Administration.
Upon completing his undergraduate studies, Tony attended the School of
Law at Bond University in Queensland, Australia where he was recognized
on the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence. He completed his studies
at the University of New Brunswick, where he received his Bachelor of
Laws degree in 2004.
Upon completing his law degree, Tony was called to the B.C. Bar in 2005. Tony's practice includes all aspects of corporate, commercial and business law, including incorporation of new businesses, acquisition and sale of businesses (both share and asset transfer), partnership and shareholder agreements, corporate reorganizations; real estate development, including strata developments and subdivisions; residential and commercial transactions; preparing security documentation for various financial institutions; wills, trusts and other estate matters including estate administration; and business succession planning.
